Across Suffolk, parkrun events will be making a splash of colour in support of the Festival of Suffolk and to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee weekend, with participants being encouraged to wear something Red, White and Blue at all the events on the 4th and 5th June.
The events, already attract some 3,000 Suffolk residents each week, to walk, jog, run or volunteer, in parks, playing fields and even a beach side promenade, across the county. 5k events take place on Saturdays at 09:00 and 2k junior events take place on Sundays at the same time.
“We are also looking to introduce new participants over the Jubilee weekend by encouraging existing parkrunners to bring along a friend, neighbour or relative to take part for the first time,” said Regional parkrun Ambassador, John Wheatley. “There are currently 14 parkruns and 6 Junior parkruns established in communities across Suffolk, which brings generations and diverse communities together, and supports them to get active and stay healthy, a key aspiration of the Festival of Suffolk “.
“Two of the central aims of The Festival of Suffolk are to celebrate a sense of community and support many more people in Suffolk to improve their confidence and general health and wellbeing. Supporting a brilliant organisation like parkrun to strengthen and increase their activities in Suffolk will help to deliver both in spades. We are so grateful to all the volunteers who deliver a run every Saturday morning and are glad that the Festival will be joining forces with them for this very special event during the Jubilee weekend,” said Tim Holder, Head of Public Affairs, Suffolk Community Foundation.
