Suffolk Libraries’ Jumpstart campaign is back in the New Year and it’s bigger and better for 2023!
The Jumpstart wellbeing campaign will again be offering online fitness activities but, thanks to the support of Suffolk County Council’s Public Mental Health Programme, the campaign will run throughout 2023 and offer physical activities in libraries too.
The full programme is still being finalised but it is hoped it will include activities such as yoga, step aerobics, Pilates, chair-based Zumba, Chinese movement, dance and boxfit. The aim is to provide a wide range of activities both online and in the library, to suit people of all ages and abilities.
The aim is for the first month of each quarter to focus on taster sessions so there is plenty of variety for people to choose from. Suffolk Libraries will also be working with other local organisations to deliver the activities.
The campaign has previously been called Jumpstart January and in the past was limited to offering free online fitness sessions which proved popular during lockdown.
Nardyne Gilardoni, Suffolk Libraries Jumpstart Coordinator, said: “We’re very excited to be bringing back our Jumpstart campaign bigger and better than ever thanks to the support of Suffolk County Council. Offering such a diverse range of activities both online and in our libraries means we’ll have something to offer everyone. People may not associate fitness activities with libraries, but our lively library service is as always, accessible to everyone and wellbeing and health is a vital part of what we offer local communities. As we can reach different audiences across the county it will hopefully mean many people can try and enjoy some new activities for free and jumpstart a healthy, happier 2023.”
Cllr Andrew Reid, Suffolk County Council Cabinet Member for Public Health and Public Protection, said: “The Public Mental Health programme aims to support the things that keep us all mentally well in our day-to-day lives. These include activities that keep us moving and bring us together with other people from our communities.
“Suffolk County Council is pleased to be working with Suffolk Libraries to support more people to enjoy the wellbeing benefits of moving more. The libraries are a great place for people to try new activities and kick-start a more physically active lifestyle.”
