A sports event with a difference is to be held once again in Ipswich.
The fourth ActivLives Celebration Community Games will be held on Tuesday 9th October at Whitton Sports Centre in Ipswich. It is targeted at adults who are not currently taking part in regular sport or physical activity.
“These Games are a result of the continuing partnership between ActivLives and Ipswich Borough Council which is aimed at encouraging more older adults to get involved in sport and physical activity”, said Mike McCarthy from ActivLives.
“The ‘Celebration’ element is celebrating the fact that this project has been so successful in attracting people to inclusive sport over the last four years across Ipswich.”
“The previous Community Games that we have held, have been brilliant”, said Julie Stokes, CEO of ActivLives. “The Community Games is an event for those people who thought that their sporting days were long gone! The Games are for any adults, who would like to participate in accessible sport in a relaxed and fun atmosphere”.
The games, which are run on a multi-sport format, will include accessible sports such as kurling, boccia, walk sport, adapted badminton, bowls, short tennis, ping pong and adapted petanque.
“All of the sports will be available on the day in the form of a taster, which anyone can come and try, and some will be run as friendly competitions for those who would like a little bit more of a challenge”, explained Mike McCarthy, ‘Everyday Activ’ Project Manager.
It costs £4.50 to take part. Hot drinks and homemade cakes will be available to purchase.
